So, the other day I was cruising around my local Hobby Lobby, when I passed through the hardware aisle and thought, “hey, haven’t I seen this knob somewhere before?”
“And this one…and this one…and this one?”
Yep, I had.
You see, several months back when I made my DIY curtain rods, I considered using some bejeweled cabinet knobs as finials.
So I went to my favorite place to peruse pretty hardware, Anthropologie.
I spent many hours in that store ogling over the knob tower, searching for the perfect shade of amber to complement my living room decór. But in the end I never found a style I was totally happy with, which was probably for the best because they came at $8 a pop.
So since I’d thoroughly memorized the Anthropologie knob collection, when I saw these at Hobby Lobby, I knew right away they were THE EXACT SAME THING. And you could probably guess, they were half the cost.
To prove it, I drew up a little comparison chart. The knobs on the left are taken straight from the Anthropologie website. The ones on the right, from Hobby Lobby online.
Since every time I go to the hardware section at Hobby Lobby I see this 50% off sign, I’ve listed their prices accordingly.
So the next time you feel the need to complete yourself with some Anthropologie hardware (and trust me, I don’t blame you if you do), you know where to go.
I never would’ve thought a store with such a dorky name would be so capable of seriously saving the day.

I didn’t even know that Hobby Lobby had that, definitely going!

I am not familiar with Hobby Lobby. In fact, there isn’t one in my entire state. I’m kind of jealous that you can find such great deals.

They only started cropping up in my town within the last year. I wasn’t a believer at first, especially since there’s Michaels and JoAnns already in town. But they have really great deals on a lot of things. Hopefully they’ll start spreading your way.

You can order from Hobby Lobby online!

Woah! I can’t believe this! They are literally identical.
Man, I am so jealous. We don’t have Hobby Lobby here, and I always find myself completely salivating over the knobs and fixtures at Anthropologie, but I just can’t justify the price. Sigh!

I know, I was surprised. Anthropologie does a lot of sourcing from independent artisans, but I guess their source for hardware is less exclusive. Score for us! :)

Ok, I am absolutely loving the knobs with the clock setting! I love them! I’ve never heard of Hobby Lobby; will have to see if there are any in my state.

I LOVE that you’ve highlighted this! I recently discovered that there was a Hobby Lobby just 20 minutes from my house! And if you sign up for their email lists, they always sent 40% off coupons off of one regular priced item.
Funny that you’ve mentioned this comparison, because I recently discovered, as well, that Anthropologie even had knobs. I am into thrift store shopping to decorate my house (check my blog to see what I’ve been up to!) and finding great deals on used furniture….re-sanding or re-upholstering them…..and then throwing some new knobs on to update the look. I couldn’t believe that the same knobs could be found at Hobby Lobby!! Who would ever pay Anthropologies jacked up prices now that they can pick up the less expensive version?!
Anyhow….I’ve got tons more projects to get done……And I can guarantee you I will be perusing Hobby Lobby! :)

Hobby Lobby has a few select decorative door knobs too. Just for future reference.

Interesting. We also don’t have hobby lobby, but the comparison still stands. So many vintage, trendy anthro, restoration hardware, ethan allen, accessories are really based on equivalents readily available at your local Goodwill or Re-Store. They just aren’t marketed quite as sexy…

Very true!

I want a hobby lobby :(

Interesting find lindy – i’ll have to tell my fiancee about this! She loves that store (therefore, I spend far too much time sitting on the bench outside the store).
January 14, 2012 at 9:10 AM
Haha. I hope it’s a comfortable bench!

There is almost always a way to find the product you want at a cheaper price, you just have to be willing to look around and be patient. Great Find!

This is awesome! I kind of want some drawers I have to reknob now.

That’s crazy….there’s also this clothing store called Urban Outfitters that sell pretty expensive clothes (imho) and I found this shirt that my now ex boyfriend bought at Urban at Target for half the price!! It was the EXACT same shirt.
this also happened to me about 2 years ago (back when I had spending $$$) was shopping at super high-end fancy boutique and bought a shirt for $50, saw it a another cheaper store for $20. i almost cried.

I’ve never been a fan of Urban Outfitters prices either. Especially when they were doing the thrift store look (when I was in high school), and you could buy the same things at, ahem, a thrift store, for like $1.

This sounds like a great way to save money. Going to the higher end stores is a great way to find interesting products but many times these same products can be found cheaper online or in lower class stores.

I’ve never heard about Hobby Lobby. I am not even sure if we have any. However, I stopped going to Anthropology a while ago because this store offers interesting and beautiful stuff that costs waaaay too much. I loved the visual comparison you did. I need to see if we have Hobby Lobby in our area.

Love the knobs! The furry hat rack Mrs. 101 made for the hacienda is sporting Anthropologie knobs/hooks, at $10 a pop. No Hobby Lobby substitutes. But the rabbit fur did come from Hobby Lobby.

Great discovery! That’s pretty amazing. I love that aisle at HL.
January 20, 2012 at 10:37 AM
Whoah! I’m familiar with Hobby Lobby (they have a few in Nebraska), and this blows my mind. Definitely going to have to check it out for my home decor upgrade soon!
January 21, 2012 at 1:35 PM
I am a Hobby Lobby addict when they have 50% off! You can find a lot of Ballard, Pottery barn, and Restoration Hardware inspired products there, and they are so much cheaper. Also, you can go online and print a 40% off coupon to use on non-sale items. I love the knobs that you chose, and I’ve seen several Anthropologie type items from Hobby Lobby used in home decor on many craft blogs. Enjoyed your post, now just have to convince hubby we need to update our dresser drawer knobs:)
